Panthers face stiff test Wednesday in East Lansing
All it took was a couple of wide-open three-pointers by Ja’Rob McCallum, and the Milwaukee Panthers never looked back in a 73-38 victory over Texas Southern on Sunday afternoon.
McCallum and senior Kaylon Williams were the only Panthers to score in double digits, as McCallum’s 14 was second only to Williams’ 17. Instead of several Panthers putting up double figures, the scoring was spread among 12 of the 13 players that took the floor. Only Quinton Gustavson was held scoreless, and even he had three rebounds in three minutes.
The Panthers ran off to a 17-0 and 25-2 advantage, and despite giving up a couple mini-runs, never let the Tigers get remotely back in the game. Perhaps the best part of the blow out is that no player was on the court for 30 minutes or more, ensuring they’re not on dead legs when they head to Michigan State on Wednesday.
If the score wasn’t indication enough, the rebounding differential was. Milwaukee pounded the glass for a 45-22 advantage, keeping the Tigers from ending Panther possessions and continuing their own.
Milwaukee returns to action on Wednesday with a date at the Michigan State Spartans. The game is on BTN.com and begins at 7 p.m.
